About

A calm, encouraging place to fall in love with music

Hello, I am Robert Howard, a multi-instrumentalist with decades of teaching behind me. I teach mainly piano and drums - jazz, classical and contemporary - up to Grade 8 and far beyond, alongside guitar, bass, singing, theory, composition and music production.

I have taught children for many years and find it some of the most rewarding work there is. Lessons are patient, friendly and tailored to you: confidence first, then skills, then the pieces you cannot wait to play. Whether you want to pass an exam or simply enjoy making music, you are very welcome here.

Lessons happen in my dedicated music room in [Town], or I can travel to you. Parents are always welcome to stay.

What I teach

Lessons for every instrument and stage

Piano and drums are my main instruments, taught from first steps to Grade 8 and beyond in jazz, classical and contemporary styles - plus plenty more besides.

  • Piano

From your very first notes to Grade 8 and beyond. Classical, jazz and contemporary - reading, technique and playing by ear.

  • Drums

Groove, technique and reading for all styles. Beginners to Grade 8 and beyond, building solid time and real musicality.

  • Beginner guitar

A friendly first instrument for chords and songs.

  • Beginner bass

Lock in with the groove and underpin any band.

  • Singing

Find your voice with breath, pitch and confidence.

  • Music theory

Understand how music works, from basics to Grade 8.

  • Reading & writing music

Read the dots and put your own ideas on the page.

  • Composition

Turn ideas into finished pieces of your own.

  • Songwriting

Melody and structure for complete original songs.

  • Music production

Record and shape your music at the computer.

  • Lyric writing

Find the words - writing lyrics that fit your melody.

For graded exams or purely for fun · ages 5 and up · beginners very welcome.
